Qld LNP would bring back regional program

The Liberal National Party plans to bring back its controversial Royalties for the Regions program if it's returned to power in Queensland.

The $509 million program, introduced by the former LNP government, was slammed in an auditor-general's report last year for favouring government MPs' electorates, prompting Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to claim it was "pork barrelling at its worst".

But Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg on Sunday announced an LNP government would upgrade the program, which was abandoned by Labor, saying: "It will also foster job creation in rural and regional Queensland and help rural and regional communities become economically sustainable."
