Qld jobless rate rises to 6.7 pct

Queensland's opposition has called out the state's new government for not creating jobs in a month where it only spent two weeks in office.

Shadow treasurer John-Paul Langbroek has criticised the Labor government for the state's February jobless rate, which jumped to 6.7 per cent seasonally adjusted from 6.5 per cent in January.

The government was in caretaker mode during the start of February until Annastacia Palaszczuk was sworn in as premier on the 13th.

But it didn't stop Mr Langbroek from having a swipe as he arrived at a media conference on Thursday with a press release headlined: "Where are all the jobs Premier?".

He continued his attack, saying: "We seem to have a government that's all about reviewing as opposed to actually doing."

When asked whether it was unreasonable to expect the government to have an immediate impact, Mr Langbroek said it should at least have a clear plan to deliver the jobs it promised during the election campaign in January.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt relied on the trend rate, which fell 0.1 per cent in February to 6.5 per cent.

Mr Pitt conceded it could be some time before the state reaped the benefits from Labor's "pro-jobs, pro-growth" election commitments.

He said the party was focusing on jobs creation through a dedicated cabinet sub-committee to reinstate things like the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program.

"We aren't starting from scratch and we will see action before the end of this year, well and truly," Mr Pitt said.

The treasurer also called on the opposition to come up with an alternate economic plan which didn't rely on asset sales.

Queensland now has the second highest seasonally adjusted jobless rate in the nation, behind South Australia's 6.9 per cent. It's also the Sunshine state's highest rate since November (6.8 per cent).
