Qld island woman bashed with rock, stick

A man has appeared in court accused of bashing a woman he knows with a stick and a rock on a Queensland island.

Farren Karyuka, 25, allegedly inflicted serious wounds and possible face and arm fractures on the 23-year-old woman during a laneway attack on Mornington Island, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, on Tuesday afternoon.

He has been remanded in custody until January 19, when his one count of grievous bodily harm is due to be mentioned in the Mornington Island Magistrates Court.
