Qld house searched in Tiahleigh case

A vacant house south of Brisbane is being searched by police as part of investigations into the murder of schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer.

The Marsden High School student went missing in October last year, with her body discovered on the banks of the Pimpama River days later.

Nobody has been charged over the 12-year-old's death, and her backpack and school uniform have never been found.

Police arrived at the Waterford West house on Logan Reserve Road on Tuesday and ramped up their search on Wednesday.

The windows of the house appear to have been dusted for fingerprints and forensic officers have also been paying particular attention to the back yard.

Former tenant Elihuti Nyomungere said he was surprised to learn police were searching the property for clues in relation to Tiahleigh's murder.

Mr Nyomungere, 21, said he had lived there with his mother and three brothers for eight years before moving out weeks ago.

He said the housing commission property had been vacant since then as he had been collecting his mail.

"The police didn't tell me anything (about the search)," he said.

"It's very shocking, very hard."

Mr Nyomungere said he knew about Tiahleigh's murder from media reports but did not know her personally.

The search comes a week after her mother made a public appeal for information about Tiahleigh's death.

"We definitely do need answers," Cindy Palmer said.

"But we don't want another family to have to go through what we're going through."

Police in February announced a $250,000 reward and indemnity for the first person involved in the crime, who isn't the murderer, who provides information that leads to an arrest.
