Qld govt to work out council funding gap

Queensland's government has pledged to help remote councils work out how to plug widening funding gaps for services.

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) will unveil a report that shows remote area councils are spending about $25 million to pay teachers and doctors, internet connections and TV broadcasts.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has seen the report and plans to discuss funding issues in depth at the LGAQ summit on Wednesday.

"Obviously every tier of government has its own constraints in terms of revenue streams and expenditure pressure," she said.

"This government will continue to work with local councils right across Queensland to address the issues of concern to them."
