The Queensland government is flaunting the state's latest business-confidence result, which has defied a nationwide downturn.

The National Australia Bank's monthly business confidence index, released on Monday, showed Queensland at a steady plus-10 in December, six points ahead of NSW and Victoria.

But the NAB also found the state's business conditions remain subdued and well below the national figure.

Nevertheless, Treasurer Curtis Pitt is calling the confidence data a "fantastic result" and says it's due to economic policies which encourage businesses to hire and invest.

"Our economic plan is working and our economy is again heading in the right direction," he said.
