Qld govt defends car rego increase

Queensland's government has defended its decision to end the freeze on car registration fee increases.

After a three-year freeze, registration costs are set to rise from $328.90 to $340.40 for four-cylinder cars and from $492.30 to $509.50 for six-cylinder cars, excluding insurance, from July 1.

Roads Minister Mark Bailey says the rise is in line with indexation policy and the previous government had budgeted to end the freeze as well.
