Queensland's government will pump $3.7 million into domestic violence research at a university that has become the first in Australia to launch courses to provide specific skills to help tackle the scourge.

Domestic and Family Violence Minister Shannon Fentiman said the funding would enable CQUniversity's Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research to continue its work for the next five years.

The announcement was made as the university launched two Australian-first postgraduate courses to better equip people like emergency service workers, legal and medical professionals to deal with domestic violence.
