The inquiry into a deadly flood that devastated Queensland's Lockyer Valley in 2011 has been extended by a month.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the extension which was requested by Commissioner Walter Sofronoff QC, will cost around $500,000 but is needed to ensure complex issues arising from the disaster are addressed.

The Grantham Floods Commission of Inquiry report is now due by September 30, rather than August 31.
