Qld fire crews battling Cherbourg blaze

Firefighters are working to contain a bushfire that is moving fast in Queensland's southeast.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised a large and fast-moving fire in Cherbourg was travelling from Murray Road and Lookout Road towards Bjelke Petersen Dam on Friday afternoon.

After warning nearby residents to leave properties earlier in the afternoon, the bushfire warning was downgraded at 5.45pm.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and make sure bushfire survival plans are in place.

"You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan," a QFES bushfire alert warned.

"If you do not have a plan or intend to leave you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly.

"Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door."

Nineteen fire crews, including two water bombers and parks and wildlife officers are working to contain the fire which isn't threatening any properties.
