Qld data goldmine for mining companies

A "data goldmine" will help resource companies searching for gas and minerals across Queensland target the best places to drill, the state government says.

All of Queensland's seismic data - 60 years worth- has been standardised and digitised and acting resources minister Mark Furner said on Sunday it will "empower exploration companies".

"This is a data goldmine for resource companies searching for new gas deposits and rare minerals and an unrivalled head start and serious incentive to do business in Queensland," he said.

"Complete data is as close as you can get to geological equivalent of an X marking the spot."

The data has been collected from seismic surveys companies conduct to secure a petroleum licence and will be maintained by the Geological Survey of Queensland.
