Qld cyclist dies after being hit by truck

A cyclist has died after being hit by a truck in Townsville.

The truck clipped the man, aged in his 50s, while he was riding in the suburb of West End about 7am (AEST) on Wednesday.

He died at the scene. The truck driver was treated for shock and taken to hospital.

It's the second fatal traffic accident in Queensland in less than 24 hours.

A 71-year-old woman died in a head-on collision on a highway inland from Gympie on Tuesday afternoon.
