Qld govt has corruption watchdog 'options'

Queensland's government can install a new corruption watchdog boss without bipartisan support, the attorney-general warns.

The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) stalemate continues with Labor appointing Ann Gummow to temporarily replace the outgoing acting chair Dr Ken Levy on Tuesday.

The Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee (PCCC) is supposed to sign off on the permanent boss of the watchdog, but it remains deadlocked because Labor won't allow former deputy premier Jeff Seeney to chair the PCCC.

Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath wants Liberal National Party committee members to either tick or flick Labor's pick to lead the watchdog within eight weeks.

She warns if impasse continues Labor may have to secure their pick without bipartisan support.

"There are options available to the government, but we are working through the process," Ms D'Ath said.

"I'm not going to flag those options."

It's understood the government's candidate is Alan MacSporran QC, the man who led the greyhound inquiry.

The attorney-general said Ms Gummow's temporary appointment would last for two months and ensure the CCC continued to operate.

Labor has wanted to remove Dr Levy as acting CCC chair ever since he wrote an opinion piece in support of the former Newman government's controversial bikie laws.

Dr Levy has said the article was his own idea and no one in the government told him what to write.

But he has faced questions after failing to disclose that he met the former government's top media adviser, Lee Anderson, to discuss the article before it was published.

Dr Levy has always stridently denied any wrongdoing.
