Qld cop who shoved mum to face probe

A Brisbane police officer who repeatedly shoved an indigenous mother in the throat is facing an internal probe after a video of the incident went viral.

Footage of police trying to arrest Natasha King's son at her home was posted on Facebook by an NITV journalist and has amassed more than 745,000 views and 12,000 shares.

The officer pushes Ms King backwards four times with increasing force as she demands to know why her teenage son is being arrested.

The final time he grabs her neck and pushes her to the ground.

Queensland Police have launched an internal independent review into the officer's actions, which will be overseen by the Ethical Standards Command.

They are also reviewing the footage as well as body-worn video from officers involved in the arrest on Saturday night.

"The footage will be subject to additional review by a specialist Operational Skills and Tactics instructor," police said in a statement.

"This overview will further focus on the legislative and procedural compliance of the use of force exercised by officers, including compliance with service training."

The video prompted outrage on social media, but Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers has defended the officer.

"How many times does somebody have to be told to move back and let police deal with the arrest?" he said earlier this week.

Ms King said seeing her son screaming and in pain had caused her to automatically act in the way any mother would.

"I just couldn't believe that he was basically hitting me when they are against domestic violence with women or anybody," she told NITV.
