Qld policeman faces assault charges

A Gold Coast police officer has faced court over allegations he used excessive force during arrests.

Senior Constable Aaron Minns, 29, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with four counts of common assault.

It's alleged he used excessive force during the arrests of four people between September 2014 and January this year.

At that time Minns was a member of the Rapid Action Policing squad which featured in the reality TV show Gold Coast Cops.

He was stood down from frontline duty in March and suspended from the police service last month.

The charges follow a spate of excessive force allegations against Gold Coast police.

A 50-year-old youth worker and a 29-year-old man are among those who have come forward recently with claims they were brutally handled by officers on the glitter strip.

Last month the state government announced a new review into claims of police brutality and sent a senior ethical standards investigator to oversee operations in the region.

An investigation into police culture on the Gold Coast is also underway.

Minns did not enter a plea in court on Wednesday.

His case was adjourned to November 18.
