Ex-cop granted bail on fraud charges

A former regional Queensland police officer accused of misappropriating money has been granted bail.

Daniel Allan Baker appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday after he was extradited from the Northern Territory.

Baker is alleged to have misappropriated money collected by the Queensland Police Service on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

He is also charged with fraud and stealing offences that allegedly occurred between January 2015 and April 2017 while he worked at the Camooweal station.

The 34-year-old former sergeant resigned in March 2017 prior to the commencement of disciplinary action.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Matthew Kahler said investigators wished for Baker to avoid the Camooweal area while on bail.

"There's a lot of anger in the community about what has allegedly happened," Sgt Kahler said.

Baker's case was adjourned to the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on September 4.
