Qld cop in court for drawing gun

A stressed Queensland policeman has fronted court accused of drawing his gun while intercepting an allegedly speeding driver.

Stephen Patrick Flanagan on Tuesday appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on one count of deprivation of liberty and one count of common assault.

It will be alleged he drew his firearm after a driver he suspected was speeding didn't immediately pull over near Longreach in May 2015.

Flanagan, a senior constable from the southern region, was stood down following the incident but represented by Queensland Police Union lawyer Calvin Gnech at Tuesday's hearing.

When asked how his client was feeling in the wake of being charged, Mr Gnech replied: "Stressed".

"He will be defending (the) charges, they will be contested," he said of the now-suspended Flanagan outside court.

"He has the full support of the police union."

His matter was adjourned until March 21.

The case of another policeman, John Lloyd-Jones, was also briefly mentioned on Tuesday and adjourned until April 8.

The sergeant is alleged to have thrown a stapler at a man he was charging at the Richlands watch-house in August last year.
