Qld cop demoted after stealing allegations

A north Queensland police officer has been demoted and transferred to another station after being accused of stealing while on duty.

The sergeant was initially suspended after he was issued with a notice to appear in court for one count of stealing in October 2014.

The criminal charge was dropped after the stealing complaint was withdrawn, however disciplinary proceedings began against him.

Those proceedings have been finalised and the officer was subsequently demoted from sergeant to constable and transferred to another station, police said in a statement on Wednesday.
