Qld bus driver cleared over stranded girl

A Gold Coast bus company has cleared one of its drivers of wrongdoing after a 12-year-old girl was left stranded.

Surfside Buses launched its own inquiry after Southport High student Lucinda Bleakley was reportedly denied access to her ride to school after her Go Card failed to scan last Friday morning.

The incident sparked fresh concerns about the operation of the No Child Left Behind Policy, introduced after Daniel Morcombe was abducted and murdered in 2003.

On that occasion, 13-year-old Daniel had been waiting at a Sunshine Coast stop but was passed by a bus running late.

Surfside said on Wednesday "extensive" internal inquiries and a meeting with the schoolgirl's father had yielded no evidence against the driver.

"The driver has been cleared of any wrongdoing," general manager Martin Hall said.

It comes after the company said initial investigations failed to corroborate the version of events put forward by the girl's father, Dean.

He had responded angrily to news his daughter wasn't allowed to board the service.

"For the sake of $2.50, who cares," he told News Corp.

"If the kids are in school uniform they should be taken to school."

Meanwhile, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed Transport Minister Jackie Trad was being briefed on the matter.
