Qantas will run direct flights from Tokyo to Brisbane from next year.

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman met with Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce in Brisbane on Tuesday to make the announcement.

Mr Newman said it's part of the government's plan to grow the economy by bringing more tourist dollars to the state.

From August, Qantas A330s will fly four times a week between Brisbane and Tokyo, allowing more than 61,000 travellers to directly access the state's capital each year.

Mr Newman says it is expected to generate up to $37 million a year in tourism revenue.

He says 28 A330 aircraft will also be refitted at the maintenance facility in Brisbane.
