Residents at a Sunshine Coast retirement village have been treated to an incredible show of nature.

A hungry carpet python lowered itself from the roof of a building at Churches of Christ Sanctuary Park Retirement Community last week, and took a large goanna in its mouth whole.

A photo captured by a community care worker shows the python suspended from the roof with the goanna hanging from its mouth.

Retirement living manager Russell Elms said residents were used to seeing a variety of native fauna around the village, which backs onto a national park.

He said they were getting an increasing number of animal visitors searching for water and food in the drought.
