A heavily pregnant woman has been airlifted to hospital after being bitten by a king brown snake.

The woman, who is eight months' pregnant, was bitten on the foot while in the kitchen of her home near Mitchell, around 600km west of Brisbane.

The mother-of-three was taken to the Toowoomba Base Hospital on Tuesday night, where she remains in a stable condition.

King brown snakes are one of the longest venomous snakes in the world and their bites can be deadly.
