Pre-election mailing blitz for Qld

Queensland voters should brace themselves for the first political mailing blitz of the state poll, even though Premier Campbell Newman is yet to call the election.

From next week, federal Labor MPs and senators will send more than 700,000 letters seeking to highlight federal budget measures that affect Queensland, News Corp Australia reports.

The state opposition has already begun replicating a strategy used in Labor's successful Victorian election campaign, with leader Annastacia Palaszczuk declaring that Mr Newman and Prime Minister Tony Abbott are "cut from the same cloth".

Mr Abbott was kept at a distance from the Napthine government during the Victorian campaign, and Mr Newman says the prime minister will also not be required in Queensland during the state poll.

"I don't need anyone else to stand by my side other than members of my team, because we have a very strong team," he told ABC radio on Monday.

The Liberal National Party would campaign on its record, he said.

"I can demonstrate where we've taken on the Gillard government, the Rudd government, and we've also taken on the Abbott government."
