Police tip-off busts Brisbane pot house

An innocuous Brisbane home has been secretly used as a large-scale cannabis nursery housing about $1 million worth of the drug.

Officers stormed the Durack property on Thursday morning after an anonymous tip-off.

When they broke through the front door, they discovered a sophisticated network of rooms housing an array of marijuana plants.

Brisbane Regional Crime Command Acting Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said young plants were kept separate in a nursery, while developing and mature plants also had their own rooms.

Occupants had installed automatic watering systems and run piping through the roof to maintain their high-quality crop.

Up to 400 power leads were also weaved throughout the house, he said.

"It just looks like the same house next to your place or mine," he said.

"There are no overt signs that anything's going on."

A 21-year-old Inala man, who arrived at the home to find police swarming the property, has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs plus possessing items used in a crime and unlawfully taking electricity.

He will appear at the Richlands Magistrates Court on Friday.

Supt Sheldon said it wasn't yet clear if the house was being run by an "entrepreneurial young fella" or part of a larger drug syndicate.

All up, police say about $1 million worth of cannabis was housed within the rental property.

"It's been wholly and solely used for the production of cannabis," he said.

Police will remove and destroy the plants.
