Queensland fire death a homicide: police

The death of a Queensland man in a Darling Downs house fire last week is being treated as a homicide.
Police confirmed on Thursday the death of 45-year-old Dalby resident Mark Wilkes, after his Edward Street home went up in flames last week, is suspicious.
Detective Superintendent Brian Swan told reporters their investigations were advancing and several people had been spoken to about Mr Wilkes' death.

Supt Swan made a public appeal for any witnesses to the blaze to contact police.
"We appeal to any member of the public who may have attended the fire on the night of Wednesday, January 20 and recorded what was happening on a video or smartphone," he said.
"We'd be very interested to view that footage."
