Police probe against Qld MP dropped

A police investigation into Queensland MP Rick Williams over serious forgery and harassment allegations has been dropped.

The claims, made by the rookie MP's former employee Bruce McLean, were referred to police in the middle of last year.

The Queensland Police Service issued a statement on Monday saying it had finalised an investigation into Mr Williams, the state MP for Pumicestone, and had referred aspects of the matter for external legal opinion.

"After relevant investigation, and careful evaluation and assessment of the available evidence, it has been concluded there is insufficient evidence to support any reasonable prospect of successful prosecutions," it read.

"The QPS does not intend to take any further action in relation to this matter."

Mr Williams had been advised of the outcome, the statement said.

The decision means Mr Williams will remain a member of the Labor government, which holds the same number of seats as the Liberal National Party opposition in Queensland's hung parliament.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had previously threatened to kick him out of the party if he'd been dishonest about his past.

Mr Williams was stood aside from the parliament's Legal Affairs and Community Safety committee pending the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation centred around allegations involving Mr Williams trying to hire someone to have his ex-wife's boyfriend "done over", sexually harassing a teenager and business impropriety.
