A motorcyclist has been clocked by police hurtling down a Queensland highway at almost 250km/h.

The 26-year-old is facing high-end speeding and drink-driving charges after the alleged joyride on the Centenary Highway at Springfield Lakes on Sunday night.

He was detected by a police helicopter crew, with in-flight footage showing the motorcycle zipping past cars along the highway.

He reached a top speed of 248 km/h during the ride through 80km/h and 100km/h zones, police say.

The helicopter tracked him down at his house, where officers later visited him.

He did a breath test there, allegedly returning a 0.06 per cent blood alcohol concentration.

He's expected to face court at a later date.
