Some of the world's best detectives and investigators of child exploitation and sex crimes have converged on the Gold Coast for an international conference targeting abduction.

Experts from the Belgium Federal Police, Texas Rangers, US Homeland Security, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other agencies will speak at the three-day conference, starting Tuesday morning.

The Youth Technology and Virtual Communities conference is being hosted by Queensland Police's Taskforce Argos which is responsible for investigating online child exploitation and abuse.

"Every person at the conference has one specific goal and that is to protect children," said Detective Superintendent Cheryl Scanlon.

"To have a group of people with the level of commitment, skill and expertise in one location and the opportunity to hear their case studies, strategies and successes is a privilege."

This year the annual conference is themed "abduction" and will see child safety specialists and detectives share details of investigations, programs and their insights into such crimes.
