Turnbull heckled at Queensland event

Protesters have heckled Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull during an event in Queensland.

Mr Turnbull joined federal member for Forde Bert Van Manen to unveil the $9 million upgrade to the Beenleigh town square south of Brisbane on Friday.

A group of about 50 protesters yelled throughout Mr Turnbull's short speech, chanting "hands off ... penalty rates" while also holding placards calling for tax and education reform.

The heckling didn't stop the prime minister, although he did acknowledge the loud crowd.

"Everyone is grinning. Everyone is happy except our friends out on the street," he said.

"Not everyone can be happy all the time."

Later on Friday, the prime minister made his first address in front of members of the Queensland Liberal National Party, who forked out $1110 each to be there.

The prime minister's visit to the fundraising luncheon at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition centre "invigorated the party", a Queensland LNP spokesman said.
