PM abuser charged over attempted murder

A man who made headlines for abusing the prime minister in a Brisbane pub is in custody after allegedly attempting to murder a woman.

Nicholas John Gordon didn't apply for bail when he briefly came before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, accused of leaving a woman he knew with significant facial injuries after an attack in the early hours of Sunday.

Gordon was in the news last month after hurling abuse at Mr Turnbull during a "politics in the pub" event at Carindale, which resulted in him being fined $756.

The 26-year-old's matter is due to return to court on July 2 and he is not required to appear.
