Pet pig dies in Qld house fire

A pet pig has died in a far north Queensland house fire allegedly lit following a domestic dispute.

It's alleged a 38-year-old man broke into the Cooktown house and set it on fire on Sunday afternoon after earlier arguing with a woman, 33, in the home.

Neighbours tried to stop the man but were allegedly assaulted.

The house was destroyed and the pet pig died in the fire.

The man has been charged with nine offences including arson and serious animal cruelty and will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
