A Queensland man accused of murdering his wife in 2001 will face a Supreme Court trial.

Patricia Riggs hasn't been seen since September that year and 15 years later her husband, Edmund Ian Riggs, was charged with her murder.

On Friday he was committed to Brisbane Supreme Court to face trial at a date to be set.

During the committal, four of the 153 witnesses in the case were questioned by prosecution and defence lawyers.

Ms Riggs' friend Lisa Davies revealed the pair had discussed problems with her marriage, including an affair, shortly before she vanished.

In August 2016, Ms Riggs' rotting remains were found at the Margate house where she had lived, when new owners renovated the property .

Prosecutors allege she was killed about 15 years earlier and her body was initially disposed of elsewhere where it began to decompose.

Her incomplete skeleton was later moved to the Margate property, they say.
