Charlotte, Oliver top Qld kids' names list

In a couple of decades time you'll be more likely to bump into a twenty-something Oliver or Charlotte than you are an Isla or Levi, according to a list of Queensland's most popular names of 2016.

Topping the state's baby names for the first six months of the year are Charlotte for girls, followed by Mia and Ava.

Oliver was the most popular boy's name, followed by William and Jack.

While Charlotte and Oliver were popular across the state, they were not necessarily given top billing in every region.

For instance, Ava was the most given name on the Gold Coast while Mia won out in Mackay and Townsville and Sophie topped the list in the Fitzroy region.

As for the males, Tyler was popular in the Queensland outback, Jack reigned supreme on the Sunshine Coast and Riley and Nate tied in Mackay.
