Pair charged over Qld double murder

A three-year-old double-murder mystery in central Queensland has taken a major twist with two men arrested by police in Rockhampton.

Daniel George Hong, 41, and Ian Robert Armstrong, 31, faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon charged with the deaths of housemates Chantal Barnett and Robert Martinez.

The pair vanished from the central Queensland town three years ago.

Mr Martinez's skull and some other bones were located along with Ms Barnett's handbag at a Mount Archer property in October 2014.

Ms Barnett's remains have never been found.

The two men arrested had been persons of interest more than two years ago but police did not have enough evidence at that time to charge them with the crimes.

Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said patience had been the key in the investigation.

"We can't just arrest people on a gut instinct," Det Insp Hansen told reporters.

"We've got to have the evidence behind that and we believe today we've got the evidence behind that."

Police wouldn't go into any detail as to what led them to make the arrests or any information behind how or why Mr Martinez and Ms Barnett were murdered.

Detectives did however confirm a $250,000 reward was not needed in their investigation.

Despite the arrests, the investigation is continuing, with police still hoping to discover Ms Barnett's remains.

"The investigation isn't closed as such," Mr Hansen said.

"We will seek any further assistance. Any people that may have been in fear for coming forward because these persons were out and about, they're now locked up and if they want to come forward we would ask them to."
