Overhaul child safety funding: union

The funding model for Queensland's child safety system must be overhauled to meet demand instead of simply responding to tragic headlines, the state's public sector union says.

It comes after a six-month-old boy died in Rockhampton Hospital on Monday, almost three months after his case was first brought to the attention of authorities.

"What we need in child safety is not having to negotiate, year on year, small increases in child safety officers in response to crises and tragedies," Together secretary Alex Scott said on Friday.
