Onlookers nab driver after GC crashes

Witnesses have made a citizens' arrest on the Gold Coast after a driver crashed into a parked car, a stationary truck and a gutter before trying to flee.

Police say its a wonder no one was seriously hurt as the driver, who later failed a breath test, ricocheted down a Coolangatta street on Thursday night before veering on to the wrong side of the road, hitting the gutter and trying to run off.

Stunned onlookers detained him until police arrived.

No one was in the parked car, but one person was in the truck and another was standing beside it when it was hit. Both escaped injury.

The driver, 39, suffered minor injuries and is assisting police.
