NZ one-punch accused granted bail

A New Zealand man accused of a one-punch attack that claimed the life of a 40-year-old Queensland man has been granted bail.

Tristan Heather, 19, was arrested after the December 4 incident outside the Coolangatta Hotel on the Gold Coast.

Police allege Heather was involved in a fight with a group of people before moving away and striking Trevor Duroux, 40, causing him to fall on the road.

Bystanders had to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the victim after his heart stopped.

He also sustained fractures to his face and jaw.

Mr Duroux spent nearly two weeks in hospital before he died.

Heather was granted bail in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday.

He was originally charged with grievous bodily harm, however that was upgraded to unlawful striking causing death after Mr Duroux's death.

Several of Mr Duroux's family members and supporters attended the hearing on Friday wearing t-shirts with images of his face and the phrase "enough is enough".
