One Nation to scrap land clearing law

One Nation would scrap a law restricting Queensland landholders from clearing vegetation from their properties if they win the balance of power.

Party leader Pauline Hanson, who is not a candidate in the upcoming state election, made the commitment on Tuesday in Gin Gin alongside Callide candidate, Sharon Lohse.

Senator Hanson said the Vegetation Management Act was destroying the farming sector because landholders could not clear their property.

One Nation's policy comes as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Saturday announced a Labor government would reintroduce its tree-clearing legislation.

The legislation, which the government failed to pass in August, is supported by environmentalists and reef conservationists but opposed by landholders.

Ms Lohse said the existing restrictions were complicated, costly and causing an exodus of farmers.

"It's just a minefield," Ms Lohse said.

The premier also copped criticism about tree clearing while she was enjoying the Melbourne Cup at the Kumbia races on the Darling Downs.

Local farmer Jim Hancock bailed up Ms Palaszczuk at the races to complain about the proposed legislation, saying she was chasing Greens votes with an impractical policy.

"Why the hell is a bureaucrat from Brisbane telling a farmer what to do?" Mr Hancock said.

"My family has worked this land for five generations. We know what we're doing when it comes to managing the soil, what needs to be put back in when it's taken out."

Senator Hanson is travelling to key seats in central and northern Queensland in her "battler bus" ahead of the November 25 poll.

She has denied being the "puppet master" driving the campaign instead of state party leader Steve Dickson.

Mr Dickson, an LNP defector, is currently campaigning in his Sunshine Coast seat of Buderim but Senator Hanson said he would be out and about next week.
