Qld tanker crash site remains closed off

Police have declared the site of a fatal traffic crash in southeast Queensland an emergency situation.

The accident involving a fuel tanker and van on Friday morning has left one dead and shut down the D'Aguilar Highway near Kilcoy.

Following impact, the 40,000-litre petrol truck rolled onto its side and started leaking fuel across the lanes.

While emergency crews have successfully plugged the leak, a 500m exclusion zone has been set up around the fuel spill.

The highway remains closed in both directions and is expected to remain so for several hours.

One man was taken to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition after the accident.

A paramedic also had a close call when his ambulance vehicle rolled en route to the crash site.

He was uninjured.

The crash also forced the Kilcoy race meeting, scheduled for Friday, to be called off.
