Officer loses consciousness in Qld assault

A police officer has hit his head on the ground and lost consciousness during a struggle with a man at Surfers Paradise.

The incident happened after police were called to an altercation between a large group of people in Orchid Avenue around 2.35am on Sunday.

The 29-year-old officer was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital, while a 22-year-old man was charged with serious assault police officer causing bodily harm and obstruct police.
