A New Zealand national charged with killing a man during a roadside fight has had his matter adjourned until June.

Tamate Henry Heke's lawyer asked for a three-week delay in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday so his client can apply for legal aid.

Heke - who is on bail and did not appear in court - was charged with murder after he allegedly pushed Shane Merrigan, 50, into the path of an oncoming truck in the Brisbane suburb of Eight Mile Plains in December.
