Police are yet to charge anyone following stabbing deaths of two men in small coastal community in north Queensland.

Tom Davy, 27, and Corey Christensen, 37, died in the street in Alva, 100km south of Townsville, after a deadly brawl broke out between a group of people about 12.30am on Monday.

A 19-year-old man who was questioned by police following the deaths was released without charge on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say he did not know the men or a 29-year-old Ayr woman who remains in hospital with a shoulder injury.

Detectives believe a bloody fight broke out after the woman went to a home in Topton Street, followed shortly after by a group of men.

One of the dead men was from the Alva area, while the other was not.

Locals have recounted seeing body bags on the road, while police labelled the scene harrowing.

Detective Inspector Chris Lawson told reporters police and ambulance officers found the men lying in pools of blood.

"It was a horrific scene to arrive there and find two people," he said the morning after the incident.

"You are talking about the dead of night where it's dark, people with those sorts of injuries in the middle of the street."
