Nine-year-old boy and woman killed in crash on rural Queensland road

A woman and a nine-year-old boy have been killed after a car smashed into a tree off a rural Queensland road.

A passing motorist found the Toyota Corolla crashed on the side of Gladstone Monto Road at Calliope, near Gladstone, just before 7.30am today.

The bodies of a 48-year-old driver and nine-year-old passenger were found inside the car.

Queensland Police said preliminary investigations suggest the car left the road and crashed into a tree sometime overnight.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who travelled through the area overnight and observed the green Toyota Corolla, to come forward.
