Mum faces probe over 'abandoned' Qld baby

A woman who allegedly abandoned her three-month-old baby girl in Brisbane, then headed to the airport, has yet to be questioned by police.

Queensland Police say the 41-year-old remains at the Prince Charles Hospital where she is undergoing health assessments.

It's believed she left her baby outside an inner-city Herston share house about midday on Sunday before she was stopped by Australian Federal Police at Brisbane International Airport where she was allegedly driving erratically.

"AFP members stopped the vehicle and spoke with a 41-year-old woman, who was accompanied by a two-year-old child," a spokeswoman said.

Queensland Police could not confirm reports the woman was recorded as a missing person after concerns from the woman's husband.

The man who discovered the baby in a capsule on his front porch said he had been shocked as he had been on the way to university.

"I really didn't know what was going on, it took me a few minutes to calm myself down," PhD student Long Nguyen told the Seven Network.

He took the baby inside and waited for police.

The baby was taken to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital for observation and was later released.

The QPS media unit said it had no update on the matter and the woman was helping with inquiries.
