More storms for Queensland as south-east cleans up

More wild storms are expected for Central Queensland, as the south-east begins to mop up after a damaging system lashed the region.

Parts of the Sunshine Coast copped more than 100 millimetres of rain in less an hour yesterday and approximately 20,000 homes lost power.

Damaging winds also lashed the region, toppling trees at a number of properties.

Resident Sue Denning was standing in her kitchen when a tree crashed through the roof.

“I heard a crack, husband happened to look over and yelled out run and that was it, we were gone,” Ms Denning told 9NEWS.

“I’m not very happy with Mother Nature, but can’t do anything about it.”

Train lines were also affected from Gympie to Calboolture, with service crews working to clear the tracks before tomorrow’s commute.

Meanwhile, Australia Zoo in Beerwah was forced to close its doors today as a result of hail.

Tonight a fresh severe storm warning has been issued for the Central Queensland.

Damaging winds and large hailstorms could affected Barcaldine, Springsure, Bogantungan and Jericho, the Bureau of Meteorology warned.
