More action at Qld Catholic schools

Catholic school teachers in Queensland will stop work again next week in their battle for better pay and fairer workloads.

The Independent Education Union of Australia says its members voted on Thursday to take further industrial action next week.

More than 7,500 Catholic school union members, at about 180 schools across the state, are expected to stop work for two hours, from 8.30am (AEST) on Thursday next week.

Union spokesman Terry Burke said members held stop work meetings across the state on Thursday, and overwhelmingly voted to continue their industrial campaign.

"Catholic school employees condemned the failure of Queensland Catholic employers to show they care about employees' serious concerns when it comes to workload and wages at negotiating meetings earlier this week," he said in a statement on Friday.

Next week's action will affected scheduled class time, meaning schools will have to make other arrangements to ensure thousands of students are supervised at the start of the school day.

The union says employers have dragged negotiations out for seven months and there's no sign of a resolution.

The Queensland Catholic Education Commission, which met with union members earlier this week, has said it's disappointed about the prospect of further action, and says it continues to negotiate in good faith.
