Morcombe movie raises more than $60,000

A second attempt at crowd-funding a biopic about the parents of murdered Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe has received even fewer pledges than the first.

The initial campaign for Where Is Daniel?, a movie based on a book written by Bruce and Denise Morcombe, attempted to raise $300,000 in 30 days on Kickstarter.

It received 1293 pledges to the value of $152,000 when it ended on August 4 and under the rules of the crowdfunding site, none of the money could be accepted because the target was not reached.

Producers then changed tact and tried to raise $120,000 in less than two weeks on Indiegogo where the money pledged could be accepted even if it fell short of the mark.

The second time around 414 backers donated $63,225 towards the movie which will go to help securing locations and finalising the script.

The Morcombes are supporting the movie based on their book and the fight for justice following their son Daniel's abduction and murder.

Daniel Morcombe was taken from a bus stop in December, 2003. His remains were found in 2011.

His killer Brett Peter Cowan was handed a life sentence in 2014.
