Daniel Morcombe's killer gets High Court appeal hearing

The man convicted of killing Daniel Morcombe will have his special leave to appeal application heard by the High Court next month.

Lawyers for Brett Peter Cowan lodged the application to appeal his conviction in the High Court last June.

He was sentenced to life in prison two years ago after being found guilty in the Queensland Supreme Court of the 2003 murder of the 13-year-old Sunshine Coast schoolboy.

Last May, he failed to have the conviction overturned in the Queensland Court of Appeal after his lawyers appealed on six grounds, including potential prejudicial media during the trial and police improperly obtaining a confession.

A date of March 11 has now been set to hear the application, with a videolink to Brisbane expected to be set up.
