A Queensland teenager who sparked a major search has been found safe inside a vacant house in her home town.

Kaitlyn Earl-Rowe was located in the house at Clermont around 2.30pm on Wednesday, less than two hours after her distraught grandmother made a tearful plea for her to make contact.

The 15-year-old hadn't been seen since visiting a friend's home in the town late last Wednesday night.

Kaitlyn's disappearance sparked a major search, with police and SES volunteers scouring bushland and abandoned buildings for three days.

Her family said her disappearance was out of character and believed she was only carrying her school backpack and had minimal items when she disappeared.

Her grandmother Marlene Bergman made a public and emotional appeal on Wednesday, urging Kaitlyn to make contact.

"You have been missing seven days now and it is unbearable for me, your nanna - I love you so very, very much but you know that," Mrs Bergman said, choking back tears.

"Katie if you can see this we need, we need you darling to come forward to the police so that we know that you are safe and well."
