A second Queensland Liberal National Party (LNP) MP is reportedly considering a tilt at federal politics.

Toowoomba South MP John McVeigh will nominate for preselection in the Queensland seat of Groom to replace retiring veteran Ian MacFarlane, the Toowoomba Chronicle reports.

But Mr McVeigh wouldn't confirm his intention, telling the paper: "I'm not commenting about Groom, the pre-selection processes haven't started."

It comes after former Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney this week indicated he was considering seeking preselection in retiring MP Warren Truss's seat of Wide Bay, meaning two byelections in state seats could be triggered.
